Insurance

Post by Wolly Bugger » Fri May 26, 2017 11:10 am

Who insures their gear and with whom do they insure.

As I plan to park my caravan in Portland for the coming season, I decided I better look into insuring my fishing gears, My boat and caravan are covered. Rather than go from one insurer to another I now have multiple policies with the RAVC.

I spent a fair while on the phone with a consultant, listing the reels and rods that I will be using, plus the others that weren't cheap to buy. I also listed the Black Magic harness as well.

The caravan is getting an annex added, so the insurance policy was updated to include that as well.

I guess caravans are a different kettle of fish (so to speak!).

As far as I'm aware, any gear that I have is covered under the house contents insurance.

I don't have any gear worth more than 100 bucks, so I'm not too worried.

Mike.

RACV with me as well. you can cover the fishing equipment under sporting goods i believe.
lures are not covered afaik.
i have multiple policies with them as well and recieve some sort of discount, wether or not this is actually saving me money or not is anyones guess though..

mingle - dont think fishing gear is covered under house contents, i asked that already.

All my fishing is covered under portable insurance on my home insurance.
Had it with racv, expensive
Had with allianz. Expensive

Gio cheapest.
Have 4k portable cover.
Max on 1000k per item and dont have to list perticulars so cover rods and stuff while fishing. Phones laptopa etc.

If go away to bermagui where game gear goes, car freezer cameras, cameras etc
Where things worth more then 1k per item. Have to list items over 1k and increase portable cover to 8k.

Fishing gear is not covered while in use but stolen from boat while cleaning fish 40 mins away. Its covered. Including lures, and tackle box etc

I use to have 5 policies with racv but found gio was cheaper for both cars and when took house insurance to then they beat racv by 300 and 500 on each car.

Boat insurance covers repairs and replacement of trailer but not transport unless 100km from home.
If my trailer is stolen at bermagui on a Saturday and i have to leave in sunday to head back to work monday.
They will store boat and replace trailer for reasonable time till i can drive up to get it.

I got hit in my kayak by a rowing crew last year in the Yarra. My kayak was flipped and all my gear went to the bottom...and they broke my mirage drive.

I put in a claim with Westpac Ins. I got replacement quotes for everything including kayak parts, sounder, phone, rods and reels etc...all up was around $4.5k. They paid out within a week after the quotes were submitted! I couldn't praise them enough.
