You dont need bells, just put your feet up and wrap the braid around your big toe a few times.

That's pretty much how it happensAaron75 wrote:You dont need bells, just put your feet up and wrap the braid around your big toe a few times.

 @Yourself
It's called skill and experience, I can manage 3 rods without the use of bells, while baiting, casting & re-rigging.
Putting it simply, if you are unable to handle all your rods without bells then you have too many.
You can think of other people, its not a crime.

Re: tackle shops that are open late ?
The people commenting here on the great bell debate...do the majority of you fish from piers where you have some light? I fish in freshwater, no lights and unless there is some decent moonlight...I can not see my rod! And I mean rod, as I have only been using one of late. I won't have a lamp going near me and I do use a bell, only because I will have a light stick inserted in it. As someone has already stated, you miss a lot of small bites with the bells. I take the bells off when casting or retrieving...too annoying!

Re: tackle shops that are open late ?
Bells create endless amusement, if someone is using them just keep a set in your pocket and give them a jingle once in a while and watch their head spin around.
I don't care if people use bells for the most part because it's rare I fish in proximity to many other people, but the couple of guys on Blairgowrie Pier a few weeks ago constantly casting and retrieving and fiddling with their rods with the bells on made me want to throw them in.
As for your question Bender, I fish the fresh almost exclusively and I used to use bells at night but too many ended up the water now if it's pitch black I just run a loose drag or turn the head torch on so I can see the rod/rods. Probably miss a few bites but works well enough.

Re: tackle shops that are open late ?
the only thing the bells are good for is to shake them in the tackle store, the staff love this... or clip them on to people who are in the store.
