Fishing gear failing
Thought I'll start a thread on fishing gear fails and what you have had issues with.

Broken bibs whilst fighting a fish
You can see that the hook is working it's way off the dodgy split ring, it eventually did.
Also had snaps open up and the odd broken hook.

Re: Fishing gear failing
Not quite sure if this counts as a fail or just bloody lucky! Read on...
This is the treble that started off attached to a 60gram Halco slice lure.
I was fishing (with my future wife) from Red Rocks and hurling the lure out with a 12ft surf-rod,
when suddenly I hear an "Ouch!" from behind me. Seems I hadn't been paying attention and had
clipped the missus's head when I cast out - oops!
The lure continued out to sea (it was a pretty awesome cast, about 70m) but when I checked Stef,
the treble that was previously attached to the lure was now firmly embedded in the back of her
head - the split-ring had been pulled open by the force of the cast!
How it didn't rip her scalp clean-off I don't know and it was bloody lucky that it didn't get her in
the mouth or eye.
A quick trip to the Cowes hospital and a tetanus injection and couple of stitches and all was good.
I was actually quite surprised I didn't get my balls busted...

Re: Fishing gear failing
This happened on the snapper grounds last year. 8/0 gama circle
This happened on the same grounds the week before. Brand new out of packet black magic snapper snatcher. 1 hook gone. The other destroyed.
Plenty of other things over the journey. Just got my 10-15kg tcurve back from the rod repairer. Had a 80 odd kg wobbegong bite me off beside the boat catapulted an 8oz sinker straight through the tip of the rod. Snapped the tip guide clean off its welds. Haha.

Re: Fishing gear failing
So ducky, was there any substantial weight on the hooks or just crap steel do you think, cheers davo.
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
