Post by denis barden » Mon Jun 05, 2017 7:42 am

Purchased bottle of Tuna Oil Saturday night for fushin Sunday morn,Mixed it into my Gar Burly.
It stunk like nothing ,Smelt like old Fish Shop cooking oil .Didn't mix at all with water.
Caught 16 Gars Saturday morn and one using that oil Sunday
What are your thoughts.

Should try a frozen berley block u buy them from whites on murroduc road. Dethaw it a little and put it in a scaling Bag. Keeps a consistent slick going on the top of the water

Denis a much less smelly burley for gars is to use the oil from a cheap can of sardines in oil ( just pour the oil into a small container ) dont use the sardines
and add to that some cheap no name bread crumbs a small amount at a time -- you wont the mix to feel dry but just holds together if pinched together

a small pinch every now and them chucked on the water is all it needs - the burley mix will spread out as it hits the water - you dont need a lot at a time you are trying to get them to the surface not feed them

hope that is some help

I think you need to let that oil soak into your burley for a day or so. I've used it without letting it soak in before hand and it doesn't seem to do much other than float away after a few seconds.

Good work on the Gars!

I always found the best burley for gars was either pollard or the small chicken pellets ground using an old coffee grinder. The really fine powder when mixed with tuna oil left a great cloud in the water it excited the gars but not enough to over feed them

Oils aint oils the saying goes, this is very true with tuna oil, there's a reason some are much cheaper than others, it should be clear to light tan colour and have a definite fish smell to it, not something that resembles fish smell, buyer beware there's some real crap out there.

Hello Dennis.

Can you help me understand why you always write "FUSH" instead of "FISH" and "FUSHING" instead of "FISHING"?

This website is FISHING-VICTORIA, not FUSHING-VUCTORUA.

Sorry mate, i needed to ask as it is messing up my fishing. :-)
