Rubber mesh landing net for kayak and landbased

Post by Sebb » Wed Apr 03, 2019 4:39 pm

I have Berkley kayak landing net which I thought was good enough. Later on I realised it's too short and the net isn't deep enough. Especially on a kayak where I got rod length to reach the fish and my body obviously stay in one position.
The extended kayak model has a good length, but the net still seems a bit shallow. Cost more too.

Any recommendations? I'm willing to spend around $40 or less.
Something long enough on a yak and not too long/heavy for landbased.

All the nets I have come across so far have been not deep enough to my liking.
There's one I actually liked at tackle world which was deep enough and also quite light weight. It was sold as a squid net but was perfect for most things

Not too hard on the wrists? How does it go with hooks and things tangling in the mesh?

or take the retractable snapper net and then cut down the handle length.
thats what Mazman has done .

Im using a stock environet and while it is great for the actual landing of fish, its a bit too much of drag while pedalling and gets in the way
There is always more to learn , fish to catch , places to see and friends to make.

havent got it yet, but after having a fiddle with it im pretty impressed, its lightweight and a good decent size. tangling wise i think it will be fine for anything other than small trebles which tangle pretty much in anything other than the large silicone nets
only thing it doesnt have is a retractable handle, but thats easily fixed if you can DIY.

what i am using now is this, with a different handle that can be adjusted, the actual net in the pic doesnt have a retractable handle as stated.
i retrofitted an older handle i had lying around from a net i dont use anymore

I have this same net for tinny fishing. Mine is labeled as being black magic brand. Think I paid $25 for it on clearance. It's a top net for the price but the handle is a bit short for what you're thinking. The depth is great and it doesn't get caught up with hooks much at all. With a decent, longer handle I'd use this net a lot more. Nothing a Broom handle and gaffe tape cant fix!
