Thought I'd start a thread on Burley Pots for Boats. What is everyone using to get the scented message out to all those fish out there ????

Firstly, I have my Burley pot rope on a large hand-line spool, it makes the rope easier to use.



I use a variety of Pots & methods. The simplest thing I use is a Scaling Bag for fish frames/bits.

Also I have made some PVC ones out of fixings & tube



And for that little bit more durable and open meshed , , , , some stainless steel ones. Note, in the square one, there is a lead ring hoop. This I made (and similar for the PVC Burley Pots) I made by cutting two different sized tin cans in half and nailing the halves together on a piece of wood, with the smaller diameter can inside the larger one. Then poured molten lead in the ring hoop gap. Careful as you need to pry the cans off the lead with a pair of pliers.




So, just wondering what everyone else is doing to get the berley out and the fish in

Denis, you never cease to amaze me. Awesome setup.

I love the Alvey "downrigger" idea, very simple, very effective, very "re-purposed", I would never have thought of coming up with that combination as an ingenious solution :thumbsup:

Love the "rubber sleeving" of the Alvey to the grab rail. Great for:
* Not marking the grab rail
* Not oxidising the grab rail from "dis-similar" metals
*AND giving good grip to the Alvey

Hey bugatti i have made the same things as u with pvc pipe,one smaller diameter for smaller pellets and one for larger things like burley blocks,but i have another tube inside which has holes in it as well and a strip taken out vertically so it fits in the outer one
That way i can regulate the amount of berley coming out by twisting it to make the flow of burley more or less

I like the star drag on Denis's Alvey set-up. When a seal grabs the berley pot and tries to make off with it you can wind up the drag and give him a bit of competition.

I have a couple of lead cages I picked up cheaply when the Local Rays closed down. They're pretty good but need a bit of gutter mesh inside to reduce the hole size if I use pellets. I'd made a pvc job similar to yours Bugs but found it was a bit too buoyant in the current, even with a fair bit of lead in it, maybe it needed more holes...

Onion bag with a rock or sinker in it. On yak though, not a boat. Not much spare space on a yak.
