with the north winds tonight might balloon out some tuna heads in search of a gorilla how deep should the bait be.

Sure, 3.95 is ideal, in fresh water if using pelican as bait, but for a good all round depth, it's 3.2

To give you a sensible answer.

If you are fishing for seven gill sharks, the bait should be on the bottom.

Some other shark species and I am no expert will take a ballooned bait. The depth of the bait is any one's guess. Try a metre or 2.
