The plan was to get out sunday in the morning if the weather gods were on my side and have a fish at the top end of westernport bay, but with a predicted forecast of 15-20knots, it didnt look good.
I put the kayak on the car saturday evening anyway, just in case...
My alarm went off at 5am, and I checked the current wind speed on my phone.... 5 knots!!!! Awesomeeeee!!
I jumped out of bed, into the car and took off!
30mins later, I was sliding the kayak into the glass like water.
The sun starting to break through.
Waiting for the action to start!
My gps died a few months ago, and my sounder died last trip out, so I was winging it a bit, but had a bit of a idea where I wanted to go. 20mins later, I had a 95cm gummy yak side! on board!
Fellow forum member Cheaterparts soon launched his kayak and paddled out to where I was fishing.
We then decided to move spots, and paddled about a kilometre further up the bay.
With a couple of big fat banana prawns on the hooks, 2 rods were set ready for a gummy.
And it didnt take long before the rod dipped a couple of times. I picked up the rod, heart starting to pump and set the hook as soon as the next good bite was felt. This made the fish a little grumpy, and it took off like a steam train!!
Bloody stingrays I said to my mate who was within ear shot of my yak as well....
It then slowed up a bit, and I tried to get some line back, which I was winning the battle as I had now turned it around back towards the yak. After another couple of runs, I had my personal best kayak caught gummy shark onboard... 115cm, I was over the moon!! :mrgreen:

Not long afterwards, I got a 110cm gummy as well! I asked my mate, Cheater, who hadnt caught a legal sized gummy yet, if he wanted my smaller one, which he did, and I kept the 2 bigger ones, my bag limit, and happily paddled back to the carpark.
Just after I had loaded up the car and was driving off, the rain started, and the wind picked up, so I got off the water just in time!
My wife was pretty happy too when I brought them home.
We had some for dinner last night, it was sooo fresh and yummy! :mrgreen:
A Happy fisherman with a 115cm and a 110cm gummy sharks! :D
