It took me ages before I caught and landed my first gummy. Hooked and had one to the waters edge before loosing it once before.

It is a matter of perseverance. I have seen one caught and bought the pier at Mordi, before being lost.

My first gummy shark was caught at stockyard point on half a pilchard set up on a paternoster rig with 5/0 hooks, even though it was just legal size it had me hooked and searching for that great grey submarine ;)

caught my first gummy in Portsea surf savers club area.- ON PIPPIES intended for salmon, in broad daylight. That is what I call extreme LUCK but I will take it. A gummy is a gummy. It was over 1 meter. It almost took my rod to the drink. I was not watching and my PVC pipe rod holder got dislodged. I saw my rod and reel heading to the water and I had to dive to get it.

By the way, there was a shark this afternoon in the surf. It must be over a meter long and we can see dark its shadows and body outline in the water. What could it be? Gummy or Bronzie? I have no big hooks and strong line so I did not bother filleting a salmon and see if I can snag it. Any idea?

maybe bronzie. I only have 30lb leader and 2/0 hook. If I had something heavier and bigger, I would have tried catching it. 30lbs seems enough but there are rocks nearby and I know I will never stand a chance...
