Any time of the year for land based gummies?
Hi all
Somebody asked my mate a question of which then the question gets passed onto me so I said I will assist (neither of them are into computers!) The question is in relation to catching gummies, shore based and I would guess in PPB. I think they have their locations / tactics in mind but they asked the following. Can you get gummies shore based all year round? Are there better seasons for them? I did a quick search but found info on tides, moon etc but there was too many posts to sift through for what I was after.
Thanks in advance
Jim

I'm trying at the moment (as in tonight and tomorrow) so i'll let you know. My understanding is that while time, tide, and month are important, more important is fresh bait, location, and hours spent.

There are some claims about the monthly cycle. That Gummies and full moons, as well as were wolves, vampires and such.
Personally I tend to avoid the full moon, don't want to get moon struck.
I tend to find gummies that I catch do not happen on a full moon.

What he was asking is can you get them in Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer...all year round, or do they have their 'seasons'? He can sort out the rest re: moon etc, that is his problem!
thanks

You can still pick up gummies thoughout autumn and winter, but there are less around, and a lot more bycatch during the winter months.

I find from April-September is best for Landbased Gummies numbers wise.
However, December-February for the larger models.

I fish for them all year round off 90 mile beach, I find the best thing is using the freshest bait - if I'm lazy or time poor, just pick up some from a fish monger at any of the melb markets.

Re: Any time of the year for land based gummies?
As other posters have reported, basically they are an all year round, with supposedly the peak time around the period of a full moon. So theoretically there are 12 peak periods in a year. :fish11:Rod Bender wrote:What he was asking is can you get them in Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer...all year round, or do they have their 'seasons'?
