I'm thinking to get a 2000 reel with shallow spool or even 1000, to match 3-6 lb 6 ft rod with maybe 6lb braid, or 4lb even.
Around $100. Any suggestions?

Looks good. Never really go to his tackle store as I find I always usually go to the one in black rock or anaconda/BCF when they have their sales on. Where in Melbourne is their store located?

This is the last fkn thing I need! Short of money...just borrowed money to get me through to when I am back at work!!! Just dawned on me that I don't really need anything anyway! Like that has ever stopped me before!

Best just check it out and see what they have got. I am not sure what is available with shallow spools (is that more of a Daiwa thing rather than Shimano...I don't know) so see what they have got. Besides, you are either going to get 25 different opinions here or zero opinions cos everyone is too excited over the sale!!!

Fair point!

Now that you mentioned it, I think it is a Daiwa thing, shallow spool spin reels. Trout fishing in small streams or even breams don't often need more than 30m of line out. Don't think anyone needs 300yd of line for breams/trouts. In fact, I don't think I ever had to fight a fish over 150 meter distance.
So the $40 of 150m braid can fit into 3-4 shallow spools. Or just straight 20m fluorocarbon line.

My common issue with normal spool is that when I started losing lines (tangled, snagged, wind knot, etc), the line is deep inside the spool causing some sorta resistance when casting as the line hits the spool head. This is only for light rod casting light lures, not much issue for heavier outfit casting heavy sinker/lure. Usually then I add more backing lines.
