27/9/2018 Report
Its been awhile since I put up a report so decided it was time to share one with you guys.
I started my hunt for a red about 2 weeks ago now and had been out 4 times already without much success except for a few take home size pinkies.
Been for a few squid sessions as well and caught a few. One session with my mate stands out where I hooked onto a massive one that started stripping line. I only caught the one but due to the size of the squid was happy with that. My mate also caught just the one but was a big one as well.
They both turned into fresh baits for a couple of sessions after that resulting in some pinkies.
Last night things changed. When I arrived my mate was already there and had a keeper pinkie of around 32 cm already in the bag. The conditions looked very nice with a gentle to moderate S to SSE wind blowing.
Having fished these kinds of conditions many times over the years and knowing this particular spot well I had a good feeling about what was to come.
The first hour was ok with bites here and there but missing a lot due to using twin 4/0 hooks with a whole pilchard. It was around 10pm when the bites started to pick up more and over a period of about an hour we quickly bagged 6 ranging from 32-39 cm. always happy to take home pinkies around that size especially the ones in the high 30s.
It was starting to get a bit late and I had to leave but I told my mate to stay if he could because the wind had changed to a W to WNW which is also very good having had success in the past when it had been blowing this wind direction. Lucky for him he had no other plans and told me he would fish the morning session as well.
Well to cut a long story short I got a call in the early hours of the morning and he had landed that big one measuring 88 cm in length. The fish took a liking to a squid strip. He did catch a few more nice pinkies as well in the high 30s.
I congratulated him and told him I wish I was there but that's just how it goes. Last year he missed out and I was the one getting a big fish.
Anyway I told him there is still plenty of time and hopefully I will be able to land a nice one soon as well before starting to target them from the boat.
All in all, it was a great fun night.
The hunt continues...
Cheers,
LX.

LB'd that's a great session
88cm's that's a great catch, high 30's are a lovely pan size
