How far up the Yarra do Bream go?

Post by ChrisD » Tue Feb 21, 2017 8:43 am

Anyone know just how far up the Yarra Bream can be found?
Of course Dights falls would be the cut off point - just wondering if they get close to that area.

Not sure, I haven't fished for bream any further than Herring Island.

Have heard second hand of bream up around Richmond/Hawthorn. I would imagine it'd depend a lot on the time of year, fresh water flow etc.

If you want some good sized bream in the the CBD area then you should give docklands a try. Plenty of good sized bream there.

I've done fish surveys in the Yarra and we caught them all the way up to dight's falls. As you said though, it's dependent on lots of different factors (rainfall, food availability, water quality etc)

As mentioned elsewhere on this site, I have caught bream on corn while fishing for carp up around the Collingwood Children's Farm. In other Victorian estuaries, bream can be found right up to the first significant rock bar, right into freshwater at times.

Thanks All

I can confirm I did manage a couple last night just down from Digits Fall......they were all small, under 16cm, but they were there.
Just could not manage to find any larger models.

In one of the Bass rivers I fish, I've caught Bass, Trout and Bream on the same lure at the same same spot all within an hour!
