last minute plans see myself and my mate head down to chase some bream again and hopefully this time on surface.
The fish didn't disappoint me, but they were all smaller in size, i didn't really care as i had the most insane fun catching all those smaller fish and some bigger ones that came along.
its great fun watching them boiling and swirling around the lure attempting to swallow it, i lost count of how many i dropped and missed strikes etc. we boated about 30 bream in total with most being that 20cm sized fish and a few good fish in the mix.
i got 4 big fish in total which were around the 35-38cm range and got smoked by an absolute beast of a fish which had every indication of a jewie.
almost any surface lure was getting attention, atomic K9, bent minnows, ecogear px, slippery dogs, cicadas and weedless plastics fished on the surface.
minnow styled hards were also getting belted in the deeper waters.
The fish were most certainly very aggressive on the day with even the smaller fish peeling line off, which is why we got so many on surface id say, and they were biting on surface through the day.

also managed My PB smallest fish on a lure, no idea what the fish was thinking, but i felt him hit the lure, it was just the faintest tap and i thought it was a missed strike, and continued working the lure until i got it in the boat to see him stuck on the hooks.
now here again lies the importance of a technique specific rod, the rod i had on was the Tournament specialist bream which has daiwas premuim carbon materials used (SVF - Super Volume Fibre) its quite sensitive and its parabolic action means even an extremely small tap can be felt through the blank.

Enjoy the pics!!

What rating is the rod mate?
For beginner's do you think my squid rod would be ok?
I cant recall on the top of my head. But its 1-2 or 1-3kg rated.
Yes the rod you use for squid will be fine for bream. Just got to get used to fishing 4lb leaders.

My leader for whiting is 10lb.
Why use a 4lb leader? Can bream see the leader?

bream can be quite leader shy, plus the lures im casting weigh 4-5gms max, (Lighter again if its plastics fishing) good luck casting out that sort of lures on 10lb and trying to get good distance.
bream fishing is light leaders and long casts, so they dont spook or see you.
structure fishing is different and heavy leaders need to be used or you will get roasted before you even wind up the slack line. :(

Hahah. Yeah i send him back but sadly he went bellyup soon after. That lure is one of my favourites. The one in the above pic is also same colour but different profile abd is swimming around as jewellery on some jewies mouth. :(
