Big banjos on the chew!
The weather and family commitments haven't exactly been playing ball lately so when the chance arose to get out for a fish on Sunday morning I made sure I took it. I was out the door by 3.30am and on the water by 4.30 with my night light on. I launched at Avalon; originally I planned to head all the way over to Point Wilson but once again the weather wasn't great and I really couldn't be bothered pushing through the slop for 7km so I went to the 9 Foot Bank instead.
About halfway to Point Lilias I started trolling a squid jig and picked up a bit of fresh bait. Probably should've held it a bit closer to the camera in hindsight, it looks pretty small.
I got to the mark right on sunrise and sounded around a bit to get a feel for the shape of the seafloor. Rather than the continuous drop-off I was expecting it seemed more like an isolated lump on the seabed. Anyway, it was structure so there were likely to be fish around at some stage. I was getting pretty warm peddling into the chop but as soon as I dropped the pick got a rest it got really cold really quickly.
I didn't get anything more than a nibble on the squid head on the last of the run in, but as soon as the tide started to run out it was mayhem as the banjos set about devouring my baits. I ended up with 6 in a pretty short space of time, including what was probably a PB before I decided to pull the pin and head back to the ramp.
Still no red carp, although the boaties I chatted to didn't have much luck either so maybe it's still a bit cold for them to be really fired up.

Great report. Seems a bit and miss out in the big puddle. You either do really well, or get really frustrated

Mate, you must have some big stones to be out that far at night in a yak during snapper season... :notworthy:

Good effort 4liters. That squid is pretty small.. needs a straight arm and a few socks to make it look decent
