Ballooning for bream

Post by 4liters » Tue Mar 05, 2019 6:45 pm

The wind on Sunday was conducive for ballooning at a local spot so I packed all the **** and headed down in search of the mighty bream.

I rigged up with 200lb leader tipped with a 2 hook wire rigs using half a salmon and a freezer burnt banjo flap as bait deployed a couple of balloons. With the balloons a few hundred meters out I got a nice burley trail going and sat back in wait.

After an hour I noticed some activity on one of the rods so I tightened the line and felt a heavy weight. There were no runs, just a reluctant weight and a few headshakes - probably a skate I thought.

While I was winding the skate in the other rod took off with a big run. This seemed more like a bream so I put the skate rod back in the rod holder and grabbed the other one. It was actually a 2m 7 gill and not a bream but a fish is a fish I guess. It was too heavy to lift so I dragged/rolled it over the rocks and into deeper water where it swam away.

The first rod still had a fish on and as I got the fish in closer I could see it was neither a bream or a skate but a big wobbegong that was probably almost as long as the gilla. I didn't know we got them here and I thought they were protected so I cut the leader when I got it close to the rocks. As a result unfortunately I didn't get a decent picture of it but they're a cool looking fish. Turns out they are unprotected and delicious so I'll try and catch it again next time I go breaming.

For a second there I actually thought you were successful. :o_0:
Next time try the triple hop and wind while squirming like you need to do a massive poo.
Worked for me last time.

Dont say I didnt share techniques now Mr w@n73r0n@j3t$k1
I might need a demonstration, my poos are delicate little coils and I’ve never had the experience of needing to take a mondo dump

Just hold it in there and go fishing for bream. It's as easy as that.
If you still cant catch one then give up fishing ffs

Ps. I actually thought there was 2 sharks first hahah. Then realised it was 2 different pics next to each other

Wobbies are protected in some other states, just not here. And yes they're nice on the plate
