Trevally Fillets would be the way to go although I use salmon much better. Trevally fillets or live trevally is good for Jews...eddyt wrote:Always wanted to get onto some gummys but never knew how landbased. How do you use trevs for bait? Do you just fillet the fish and use a whole fillet or do you cut up the fillet into smaller pieces?

Re: First trip to Docklands coming
I fillet them and cut the fillet into strips about 10-15cm long and 2-3cm wide. The heads make great baits too, the pickers don't destroy them nearly as fast but they don't cast very far due to the shape.eddyt wrote:Always wanted to get onto some gummys but never knew how landbased. Basic 12ft surf rod, 6000-8000 size reel, 20lb mainline, 50lb leader, pulley rig or paternoster, 5/0 circle hook, strip of trevally pinned at one end on the circle. Fish anywhere between Shoreham and Somers on a rising tide after dark.
The blokes who do it heaps will be a bit more refined than this, but it will do the job. There's a section of the forum for shark fishing and there's heaps of info there.

Re: First trip to Docklands coming
thanks 4liters. good thing I asked because otherwise I would have just put the whole trevally fillet on a hook but I think I need some heavier gear first...

Isn't that what everyone needs? An excuse to buy more fishing gear...
