Haven't fished APL much, about once a year over the last 4 years - each time I've donut'd. Plenty of reports of good fish there, so I have always been keen to try and break the donut, but just have been slow to return there mostly choosing other places to go when I've had a chance to go fishing.
Caught up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while and he is getting into fishing himself (1 donut at APL to his name so far), so Friday night at APL was a good option to meet and try to get onto at least one fish between us. Weather was pretty average being quite windy and cold, and the wind was causing a bit of trouble with casting our lures. I was casting a 45mm rmg scorpion and he was casting a brown 2.5" Zman grub - trying to manage casting to compensate with the wind and your best guess in the dark as to where the weed edge was made things tough. We made a decision to combat this by moving to a position on the lake where we had the wind at our backs which helped quite a lot.
Before we moved, I had a missed hit which a few casts later turned into an EP of about 30cm and I also managed to unexpectedly (no resistance felt on the retrieve) pull up a lure as well (rapala?)
After the move, apart from a missed hit, I was fishless but my mate managed to get an EP of about 30cm and a yella of under 40cm.
Spoke to a guy later on in the night who said he was a regular and called it a tough night out - so we were both happy to break our donuts there and get 3 fish between us.
Cheers, Chris
