Fishing report Monday 02/03!!!

Post by Joker91 » Tue Mar 03, 2015 10:23 pm

Well I was lucky enough to finish work early on Monday and had a few things to do which I was able to get out of the way quickly. It’s amazing how fast you can get things done when you have fishing as a motivation lol.

I approximately lunched from Altona boat ramp around 1 o’clock and headed towards the football ground. Target species for the day were whiting. As I’ve made it a mission to catch them lol. I had a couple of rods set up with paternoster rig with a red beads and another with a running sinker and green/red bead on it.

I tried a couple of spots around there in shallow waters and didn’t even get a nibble. After the second time I moved I sought of gave up and decided to just start drifting. So I drove out to around 9 meters of water and drifted in. using the same rigs with pipis for baits, and ‘fresh’ squid that I bought from the markets a week ago and froze it. I was able to catch some around three decent sized pinkies that were keepers.

After a couple of drifts I headed back to the boat ramp to pick someone up. We then decided to try for some squid and headed towards point cook. We stayed drifting there using a number of jigs but got nothing. Although I had a couple of rigs in the water and managed once again to get some decent sized pinkies and flat heads.

Since the fish were on the bite so much we decided to try something different and put some cucumber on the paternoster rig to see it they would take it lol. We dropped it in and obviously nothing took it but we left the rod there for a few minutes and the rod bent over hahahaha. We ended up pulling in two decent sized flat heads. I couldn’t stop laughing I was in tears lol.
So all up we ended up with 6-7 pinkies/flatheads. I found the most effective rig and bait was the running sinker with red/green bead using the squid.

I didn’t take any pictures of the catch but here’s the last of the catch that hasn’t been eaten lol

Cheers Joker 
