Football ground Williamstown

Post by Trumpeter » Sun Mar 08, 2015 11:06 pm

Took the kids and Mrs out today for a fish behind the footy ground in 9m of water, plenty of undersized flatties kept me busy unhooking and re baiting their rods for a couple of hours. Once boredom set in and the sou easter picked up we motored up the Yarra to the docklands for a bit of sight seeing and a soft drink. Plenty of fish in the river on the sounder with some big arches along the wharves near the Bolte. A nice day out.

Sounds like a good day on the water mate.

try just drifting there instead of anchoring. sometime last week i went to the football ground and went out to 9 or so meters of water then just drifted in. landed some decent pinkies in the process

What is the advantage of drifting?

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

You can do it if you don't have an anchor! Most likely you cover more ground!

for me its pretty much covering more ground. i was achored in a couple of spots around the football ground got nothing, started drifting and it was on.

Also it just so happens to be a plus that you dont have to pull the anchor up hahaha

I like to drift in ppb I put a drouge out to slow my drift, you cover more ground, most fish like a moving bait keep your eye on the sounder and mark the reefs/channels you come across. Sometimes you can come across a reef drift over it working the reef with soft plastics then motor back and work it again. If you have a gps mark the likely looking spots for future reference

Drifting would've been good to cover more ground and my favourite method for flatties but the wind was a little strong and we were amongst a few other boats.
