Scores of dead fish, eels wash up after Melbourne factory fire

might need to be a bit cautious in what you catch & keep in the area.

Dead fish, eels and other marine life have washed up on the banks of a Melbourne waterway after toxic chemicals and firefighting foam entered the creek while crews worked to extinguish a factory fire in the city's west.

Environment Protection Authority chief environmental scientist Dr Andrea Hinwood said chemicals from the fire water run-off could cause fish deaths and stressed that pet owners should keep their dogs away from affected waterways.

I have never eaten anything out of the Yarra or Nong, to much of a health risk IMO. All catch / release.

I always find it a bit ridiculous that people say that they won't consume fish out of the Yarra, but will eat fish caught in the bay ... which is a continuation of the Yarra /Maribyrnong. In this case, the same applies - isn't it convenient that the EPA will put up signs at the warmies, but pretend that the millions of litres of contaminated water flowing down Stony Creek are someone not connected with any impact on Port Phillip Bay. A fire like this will damage not only local inland waterways, but ultimately the water quality in the bay itself.

Not sure whether there’s quality testing done on fish out of the bay or Yarra imagine there would be. Any of this run off into the bay is a concern goodpoints bilby

Not so "ridiculous" when it's calculated parts per million, take a fish from p2 and take a fish from the Yarra where the spill is and you figure which is safer to eat.
