Werribee South 4 Sep

Went out with the Old man for a fish in what were pristine conditions in Werribee south. Water was like glass in the morning and swells picked up only marginally to a half meter by the arvo. We started the day at 8:30am and headed straight to RAAF chasing squid. After just 2 squid in 4 hours scouting the area (And a number of others around us having similarly slow catch rates), clearly no one told the squid how perfect the conditions were for fishing.

We decided to sound around a few markers for early season snapper between Point Cook and Werribee, some as deep as 14mtrs others 8 meters. There was nothing on the sounder so of course we got impatient and just drifted around markers with no activity with some baited lines as well as me using various soft plastics such as grubs and minnows in alternating colors.

On the drift we managed 5 flatties in the next 4 hours, 2 just over size, 2 returned under size and 1 solid 35cm.

A quiet days fishing is better than the best day at work so overall a nice day without being a memorable days fishing.

Hope to head up to St Leanards Saturday with a very flat forecast for the day. I have never been there, so any tips on target (I believe whiting have been on the go there) or areas to sound around would be much appreciated.

Hopefully its more productive than yesterday, but at very least it will be a new experience fishing somewhere different.

At least you gave it a crack mate. Time spent with the old man is always a good thing.
I hope you have some more luck on the weekend. Cheers.
