Launch ya yak at end of millers rd, you can see the reef for, kgw, reds n squid...
Then if you drift towards altona pier it will become sandy.

Thanks bowl. How far out off millers rd is the reef? I have a sounder too, google map is showing sorta broken ground straight off millers rd. Guess I should start there, 4m water?

Planning to go there Sunday morning on the kayak. Any suggestions where I should start to look for whitings and flathead?
Have you read any of this thread at all?
I did Tim, twice. Doesn't really say the distance.
Weed bed between Altona to Point Cook is a lot of open areas. I'll be on a kayak, so I'll be very limited. There is no way I'm paddling Altona - Point Cook, and need to be in safe distance from the shore.
I'm hoping something like "start with 100m off Altona Pier to the east"
Much appreciated if anyone is willing to share, if none, it's all good, no need to say anything.
Theres an artificial reef out front of Alrona pier, 50m or something, try round there maybe
Thanks j_pap, that's a good start. First time I'll be out there around Altona. I've only been out to port philip bay twice on my yak.

Just got back. Heaps of kayakers and boaters.
Got out there 6:30am and fished 4-5m. Heaps of undersized pinkies as usual. Drifted to 7m and had about an hour of flathead frenzy, mostly undersized. Got two fish on one paternoster rig and saw another free swimming flathead chasing the two hooked flathead all the way to the surface. Very unusual.
I got two and my mate got three of 27-30cm. No whitings.

Most kayakers back on the ramp saying the same thing, heaps of undersized pinkies and flathead.

I was out yesterday afternoon on Altona Reef. Let me tell you it was the first time in months I found it hard to even catch a micro-pinky, mind you I was smack bang out on high tide. Generally I've found the fishing around the reef to be pretty good lately, getting my mixed bag of just on legal pinkies and some thumper 40+ whiting, not sure what happened yesterday.

I also went out further south to chase some squid and found them hard work, only landing a couple.

Great day out Seb, some flatties are always a welcomed dinner guest , , , , well dinner guest isn't exactly what they are, but if you tell them they are the dinner, it may make them less likely to bite.

It's always comforting (but maybe not reassuring) if others back at the ramp have fared the same.

I have noticed with your posts, you do get around and amongst all manner of fishing. I get tried trying to keep up. And I'm only doing the reading, not the fishing.

Cheers, Bugatti
