Ws tomorrow afternoon
Fishranger has me stumped.
Tomorrow arvo werribee st 5-10kn wind but over 1mt waves? Never seen the place like that with little wind.
Anyone else experience this? Is the wave forecast potentially less important than wind and direction?
Based on wind alone it looks a great arvo for fishing

G'day CGF
(love ya work by the way, one post you did a while back impressed me immensely)
I'm not familiar with the area, being from South Oz, but has it got something to do with off-land winds verses from the sea winds?
Also, here in St Vincents Gulf (SA) and more so in Spencer Gulf, wind against tide slops things up.
And wind with swell in the same direction here, amplifies the wave high, ie small wind with a modest swell in the same direction gives a higher wave height.
Also we here in St Vincents Gulf have a higher wind, swell and wave height south of Brighton rather than north of Brighton , , , , for the same weather pattern.
Or is what you are mentioning, is it simply odd for that area?
Cheers, Bugatti

Re: Ws tomorrow afternoon
I'm still quite new to boat fishing. So yah just wandering whether a certain combination of conditions can cause much more chop even when the wind isn't particularly strong.
So I guess your explanation answers that. I just wander what in n particular makes tomorrow's forecasted waves so huge vs nowish wind.
Ultimately I just want to go fishing and Friday arvo is my only available time. Wish the weather would work with my availability instead of against it.

Re: Ws tomorrow afternoon
East wind is crap for werribee, even ten knots makes it bumpy.
Clifton springs is some what protected in east wind.
Think black rock is ok in east to..
To many boats kayak, helicopter , catch a fish, catch a fish

Not sure how many locations you fish but that Ol' adage , , , , can't beat local knowledge , , , , it's just simply one of those learning curve things. I know some people vigilantly write in a journal, all the factors of every trip. If I did that, I'd probably wouldn't of got caught out as often with the weather.
Wish you well with the new endeavours
Cheers, Bill

Fishing sometimes is like "Bush-fire evacuation procedures" , , , , having everything ready, and when the call is made , , , , woohoo time. I have a Skimmer (more of a flatter bottomed boat) so I pick my days carefully and use to last minute changes of making the call.
I find using synoptic charts (from the Bureau of Meteorology - BOM), including their Marine waters forecast to be very useful AND helps give me a better understanding of weather patterns and what to expect in the coming days and why. Including the lead up to my fishing day, that I get a better understanding of what the conditions are going to be like. Helps with the lead up days and of course the fishing day too.
One thing I noticed, members here use Fishranger in-lieu of Willyweather. Is it better?
Ooooooooow, I can feel a fishing report coming on , , , , woohoo.
Good luck CGF, hope you get to go out and wet a line
