Warmies plastics session
Hi again,
I went back to the Warmies (anything but this morning) for another go on the plastics.
The wind was ruining the fishing yet again and it was a hard slog to find fish but after an hour I caught my first Bream of the day, only 25cm but fought hard, it then took two further hrs to catch two more.
The most annoying thing is 2hrs into my session I was hit by a fish and it rapidly swam to my right, I reeled in fast to tension the line and it turned left and then I felt the weight. My rod bent double and my reel screamed in three big lurching jolts, then I nearly got hit in the forehead by a flying plastic, Dammit, don't know what it was because I never seen it but it was big, I would have liked to have had it in the net for a photo as I catch and release anyway.
Never mind we will meet another day.

Re: Warmies plastics session
Did it go left and right on the surface? Or down deep?
On the surface usually salmon or even tailor.
Deep could mean mulloway or big snapper.

Dam mate that’s happened to me many times and always leaves me wondering what it was as well. What kind of gear were you using?

It went deep mate, never seen it at all. Three huge reel screaming lurches, then the plastic came out. It felt bloody strong and heavy.

Did it shake a lot? If it did, it's a big snapper. If more runs than shake, it's mulloway.Scozziefish71 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 9:32 amIt went deep mate, never seen it at all. Three huge reel screaming lurches, then the plastic came out. It felt bloody strong and heavy.
Sounds like mulloway to me, since mulloways do two runs in opposite directions.
Whatever it was, sounds like a big fish.

It went right so fast I could barely catch up , then left just as fast, then straight down, three rod bending lurcges taking line the whole time, then the plastic came flying right at me.....bugger.Seb85 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 9:35 amScozziefish71 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 9:32 amIt went deep mate, never seen it at all. Re: Warmies plastics session
I'm 90% positive it's a mulloway run. Try again with heavier outfit, usually when they're feeding, they're active for couple nights, especially close to new/full moon.Scozziefish71 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 9:41 amIt went right so fast I could barely catch up , then left just as fast, then straight down, three rod bending lurcges taking line the whole time, then the plastic came flying right at me.....bugger.Seb85 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 9:35 amScozziefish71 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 9:32 amIt went deep mate, never seen it at all. Re: Warmies plastics session
I would pick it as a decent snapper, the jewies I've hooked in the Yarra haven't stopped to change direction mid run. also there are a few snapper hanging around the mouth of the Yarra atm.Seb85 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2019 10:08 amI'm 90% positive it's a mulloway run.
