Warmies

Post by Scozziefish71 » Fri May 03, 2019 10:16 pm

Hi again folks,

I decided to go for a short session after work today to try out my new heavier Shimano rod and reel. Anyone who has read the previous posts will remember that I have been defeated by a big fish twice now in my light Daiwa outfit.

I never connected with any Mulloway but did catch two very nice flathead on 4" paddle tail plastics which I was quite chuffed about. Pics to be added later as I can't get them small enough on my phone.

There was quite a lot of fish activity, the usual Mullet jumping around and small Bream splashing out of the way of something near the edge.

I nearly ended up with half a rod on my last cast as my tip came flying off and landed with a splash in the warmies channel, luckily it never snagged on anything and I got it back.

All in all, happy with my session :water:

Photos now added.

Welldone, keep trying, that big fish can bite anytime.
Did you fish and get the flathead in the yarra? Or in the warmies water?

Nice work mate.
How big did the flatties go?
Just how it goes huh, you take the heavier gear and you’re all prepared but the mystery monster fish does show up.
If I were you and was planning on fishing that same spot, I’d always carry and cast out the heavier gear just in case. You never know when it might show up again!
Cheers

I caught the Flatties between the rockwall and the Yarra beyond the boatramp.

One was around 57cm, the other around 45cm, see the photos.
There were a lot of larger fish around last night, I seen small fish jumping out of the water in the channel to escape something.

One major problem though, got snapped off 10-15 times by something that I physically couldn’t stop on my 2-4kilo rod with 8 pound line.
I have a similar post, huge unknown fish, no way could I stop it.

Try heavier gear as I am going to, at least so we can find out what the hell they are

It is more to do with your previous fishing (like Mathew's). The "long game" is more a comment on "Try heavier gear as I am going to, at least so we can find out what the hell they are" for future attempts.

Anyway, hope you do land the beast, which I coined the "Warmies Whopper" name in Mathew's post , , , , and a scoreboard for Mathew's attempts shall be put up on any future Warmies endeavours of his.

It's a bit like Greek , , , , looses a bit in translation
