Banjo shark, pinkies, travelly and flat head

Post by Slammer » Mon Jan 05, 2015 10:39 pm

Had a great morning fishing before and just after the low tide this morning. Again I caught heaps of tiny pinkies and travelly. Came close to my first legal snapper, it was 4cm under. Landed my first Victorian banjo shark and lost another one. Caught some tiny travelly too. My friend got a decent flat head and again lots of pinkies and travelly. We used, pilchards, yellow tail and squid. Didn't get a single bite on soft plastics. Great weather too!

Thanks for the report, sounds like there was plenty to keep you entertained. There's a lot of smaller species around this time of the year. Bigger Squid as bait is a good way to keep your bait in the water for longer, hopefully long enough for something larger to take it..

No problem Az, yeah it was a fun day. Have you ever fished the other piers close to st kilda? Or fished at night from st kilda?

Thanks for the report slammer! st kilda pier fishes best from now until march-april for a large variety of species! If you have fresh bait(caught yourself or from the market) you will do infinitly better than the fishos around you ;) Keep persisting and you will get your legal snapper :thumbsup: goodluck mate
When I got time,

I fish quite regularly all the way from Port Melbourne to St Kilda, with plenty of all nighters. Fresh baits as mentioned above help heaps, also the conditions and time of year.

Here's a report i posted from a couple of months ago;
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=11148" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It has some information on the gear, bait, setup, conditions and date.
