Albert park lake round 2

Post by Sammy123 » Sun Nov 17, 2019 12:13 pm

Hit up Albert park lake again this morning to try for a Yellowbelly. Turned out to be quite the session :tu: managed 7 fish all up, 2 trout, 4 estuary perch and finally a Yellowbelly of 60cm right at the end :-D

All caught on plastics and vibes with zman slim swimz being the standout.

Finally starting to understand how to fish this lake, it seems hopping plastics along weed edge and sand patches will account for plenty of aggressive trout and estuary perch however the yellowbelly are far more timid, I saw many yellowbelly chilling out in the open but once again could not get them to take anything, what did the damage was fishing large structure where they seem to be a lot more confident, the one today took a slim swim under a pontoon.

This lake is turning into a favourite spot for me, I only live 5 minutes away and all this time i'd never really considered fishing there.

Definetly not your typical shallow, weedy lake :te:

How do you see where the weed edges are? Do you do small hops or?

Polarised sunglasses make it much easier to see weed edges and sand patches, I was doing fairly small hops, just a gentle double twitch, or a twitchy slow roll with pauses. Then a steady slow roll just bellow the surface over the weedy areas, picked up the trout doing that.
