Fishing St Kilda Pier for the first time Sunday 04/02/13

Hi Everyone.

Just got back from st kilda pier. This is my first time fishing there. What a nice pier to fish at, alot of pedestrian walking up and down and soooo many fisherman there. I love the atmosphere there apart from a few drunks that was being stupid!!!

Anyways, got there at around 8:00pm and fished till 11:30pm. Caught 3 pinkies (24cm, 27.5cm and the biggest was 32cm) about an hr apart from each. was caught on pilchards.Released them all back, as the last one i caught was the biggest. no point just eating 1 pinki!

Not many bites as i was the only one catching fish out of the 30+ people fishing. Overall, had a goodnight! :thumbsup:

Thanks for the report mate. I was thinking about heading out there tonight but I've just had a big weekend, drove up to Albury with the family after work on Friday night, had a wedding on Saturday and drove back home today, so I was feeling a little too tired to head out. Might go out there tomorrow night, pending how I'm feeling and what the weather is doing.

Well done kenshinnn!

I am about to start hitting the piers/breakwalls, having never tried fishing on any of them yet.

So, this is probably a bit of a n00bish question, but all the same...

When you catch these pinkies, how did you land them?
I have a net about 1m long, but I dunno if that'd be big enough to reach the water from the pier, would it?

Most pinkies caught can be easily lifted onto the pier/breakwall just when you catch the monster size you might want to use the net/gaf. Take it with you (net/gaf) because you don't know when you will needed.

Hi miowera,

We just pull the pinkies up with the rod, they pretty light.
I might head to Melb Webb Docks tonight after work if im not tired. Will give another report if i go.

Yep, just got back from melb webb docs. Lots of people there. 2pinkis and 2 flatheads caught by others. i didnt get anything
