If you take note of the dates, yes it actually took me that long to find the right conditions to do it.

In my opinion luck plays a part in just about everything. What you can do is stack the odds in favour of your own success.

Probably less so than any other kind of fishing. If you fish a remote ledge that has been fished maybe once previously in the last year you'll get a lot more luck than on some overfished pier getting pestered by day trippers wanting to know if there are fish around.
