help needed please
Im thinking of heading to somers this arvo/night for a fish . Hopefully catch something at sunset and then have a look for some gummy after dark.
I have never fished here before and im still yet to get myself a gummy . I just got back from a week long camping trip with only 1 carp as a catch and im dying to get something worthwhile.
Anyone got any tips? Please

4litres has been fishing there a bit recently with fresh salmon. I think he got one about a month ago.

If you're just chasing a fish and a beginner a gummy is a hard target. You might be better off going after salmon, squid, redfin, or stocked rainbows to start with.

Re: help needed please
I was fishing at the yacht club on thursday night, stayed until 12:30 and got donuts. Convenient place to fish as you're only 10m from the car park but it can be a pain in the ass (and potentially dangerous) if you have to climb up and down the rockwall. The other place I've been told is good by a local is the bit of beach just down from the general store but I've never been there before.
I guess other than that it's just like any other spot, read the threads about gummy fishing, follow the advice there, make sure you have a head torch, bring fresh baits and cast at the water. Gummies are hit and miss so don't worry if you don't get anything first up.

Re: help needed please
To be fair I'd been fishing for maybe 4 months tops before I caught a gummy (and that was my first proper attempt at catching one). I'd say experience definitely helps your chances but if the fish are around and hungry anyone is in with a shot. Conversely if they aren't around then even the best gummy specialist will get nothing.DougieK wrote:If you're just chasing a fish and a beginner a gummy is a hard target. Have a go, the worst that can happen is you spend an evening in a pretty nice place feeding the crabs and the sea lice. Actually the worst that can happen is a huge ray pulls your nice surf setup into the drink but I try not to think about that.

I wouldn't say that, in that area.
Toss a bait out, sit back and wait for a bite.
You have the beauty of being able to use either a paternosta or running sinker rig, you don't need a heavy sinker to cast miles, as the fish come in close. They are easier to land here, than at say gunna. There is no real swell to trouble you, little tide flow or sidewash.
You don't need traditional surf gear to fish the area, you can get away with 8 or 9 ft spin gear and it can be very rewarding with what can be caught.
