Re: Shoreham and Point Leo 13/12
I have about 50cm of heavy chain starting about 1m above the anchor, it's ok in most situations but I've found deeper water (9m+) with decent tide flow is a bit hard to hold position. One of the jobs on the to-do list is to make some sort of attachment so I can quickly add or remove a second length of chain another meter above the first length. It'll probably just be a loop tied in the rope and a small carabiner at each end of the chain to attach it to the loop and the top of the other chain.purple5ive wrote:good catch there mate.

I launch from Shoreham beach, it's a nice sheltered launch and the car park is close to the water. You can even drive onto the beach but last time I did that I got bogged in the seaweed so I won't be doing that again. A 4WD would manage it ok though.

What weight anchor were you running? just wanting to know as i'm planning a trip there soonish. also do you have a piece of chain above the anchor?4liters wrote:It's an awesome place to fish, you're always a chance of getting a gummy (or something toothier), huge squid are around, lots of whiting, and bugger all boat traffic compared to other parts.Brett wrote:Nice job, can't wait to get over that area and hit some squid. when and if I ever get the bloody kayak stuff sorted out.
I might give the snapper mark one more crack before Christmas (this time with a heavier anchor) but if that doesn't come off then I'll have to start looking in the better known locations for a good one.

Never weighed it, so I don't know for sure. Probably 2kg or something though. I have chain, although probably not enough for the deeper areas.

thanks ian I might need a heavier one as well. try shifting the chain higher up the rope a few people on vyak have suggested this for holding in faster currents.

Yeah, I'll work something out tomorrow. Whatever I come up with will be given a run for it's money on Thursday if the weather is good, I'll be sitting in the mozzie channel (or trying too lol) with the tide ripping through.
