Boxing Day Whiting on the chew
G'day everyone, I hope you all had a great Christmas.
Despite being tired and full of food from the day before, the weather was simply too appealing to not go out and have a crack at Western Port's finest. Headed to the spit and anchored 2 hours into the outgoing tide. I resisted the urge to go to some good marks of mine that i bagged out on last week and tried some completely different spots, it turned out to be a winner  .
First drop three ting with a good one of 41cm, then i spooked the school by dropping a fish during the fight. Waited about 10 minutes to see if the burley would bring them back but no such luck. Up the anchor went and i motored about 50-100m away and set the pick. Turned out to be a winner, with a red hot bite. Interesting how their feeding changes, with them starting off smashing my baits to going very timid and picky as the water speed changed, looking like little toadies pecking at my pippis. The shiner hooks are great when they are smashing the baits, but when they are like this you miss fish (well i did anyway), unfortunately i didn't have any long shanks on board with me to change to. It was harder to hook them but with some assistance of a slow lift up the shiner lodged into the jaw perfectly. i Managed my bag limit of 20 with some much healthier good paddock fish. 8 of which were 41cm or above with the leader being 46cm. The rest differ from 35cm, 37/8cm etc.. but at the end of the day no matter how big they are premo quality. Love the Whiting fishing, when they get going its madness and reverting back to a single rod. A good Christmas present no doubt . Would love to start targeting some bigger model gummies, i have only caught them in the 4kg range, if anyone has any tips or recent info it'd be much appreciated. I was thinking of the Western Entrance down to Flinders inbetween there. Cheers!
