Re: Merricks on a Sunday
I've got whiting at both, but generally I only target larger species, so I've only really got them as by catch

Doughnuts on Monday from said beach.... Not even a nibble.
Had a huge run and fight there last week - then whatever it was spat the bait  From the good fight and lack of markings on the bait / mono leader, you'd guess it was a decent gummy.
Strange beach merricks.

Re: Merricks on a Sunday
I have fished Merricks several times from a boat with great success chasing squid.
Looking at Merricks Beach from Google Earth, it looks like their is way too much reef and structure. (Good for the Calas!)
I have never thought of fishing the area Land Based due to high risk of snags!??!
Are the reef and weed snags an issue there?

Re: Merricks on a Sunday
Yes they are definitely, I have been fishing here for years and have pin pointed the right spots with land marks not to get snag... though the big clump of kelp still haunts you time to time. Everyone seems to fish around the same spot near the left yacht club but there are many other IMO better spots. Find reef find fish

They can be if you don't know what you're doing. I'll let you know next time I head over and you can experience it yourself
