I did see the iFish boat. I have a 420 dory, non painted. The DMG is marked on the chart and is a few KM SW of Mornington. Having a look this morning I probably did not hit the right spots as there are a few shallower points and they might be better, and having not been in PPB before I am not the guy to ask. Pretty much getting any fishing advice from me is asking for trouble (unless you want advice on banjo sharks and I am your man).

They were hitting the slugs hard and I had a few where they were hooked on all three points of the treble and were only getting free if the line broke.

well must have been you then for sure, as i do remember seeing a father and daughter duo at some stage. we were in the area from maybe 3 till 5pm and not much further away earlier than that. white 4.2m centre console polyboat with 3 guys in it.
we were right next to the ifish boat on many occasions.

wasnt asking for help haha, i just wasnt sure what DMG stood for

in PPB mate you werent far off from reasonable fishing grounds, further down towards mt martha and fishies beach would have seen you bag out on squid.
let me know if you need some help next time, im no pro to the area but ill show you what i know.
another tip for next time is to use a single hook on those slugs, its a lot easier to unhook them than a treble hook.
cheers

DMG is dredge material ground. It is where the dregde puts the they take from the channel. Next time I go to PPB I might try higher, maybe Blackrock or further down Rye way. Carrum or Mordialloc is closer to me but does not look like many marks or structure close to shore. I dont mind being a few KMs out but being in the middle of the bay in a tinny does not appeal, I like to play it safe.
