On leaders ...
I haven't spent much ... any time squid-fishing lately, and my squid rod is now setup for bream with 3 pound leader instead of the 6 I was running. Would 3 pound be sufficient for the little squid one picks up around Mornington? I assume that snag-happy Flinders would be a no-go ...

Re: On leaders ...
ive been using 20lb, still picking up plenty of squid. the braid is thinner but i use 20lb leader so i can recover my jigs from any snags. it works for me anyway

Re: On leaders ...
Should be fine around Mornington I’d suggest a bit heavier tho, I use 6lb braid and 10lb leader on a 1-3kg rod

Re: On leaders ...
I'm sure it'll catch em but you might lose a few jigs fishing 3lb. Squid aren't that fussy and losing jigs gets expensive, put heavier leader on. I usually fish about 8-15lb mono leader (whatever I have) for squid just so I don't lose jigs to the bottom so often. And then yeah, Flinders, you wanna use something heavier again so you can just drag the kelp back to the pier and save your jigs!

Re: On leaders ...
I would use 10lb leader just incase of snag up or get a bit one.
Not to hard just to pull 3lb leader off and put a.new.leader on for a.few.days

Re: On leaders ...
I use 30lb leader and 15kg mainline. The squid don't care and I never lose jigs, even in the weed around Flinders. Lighter and lighter lines is fashionable but when you have products available like WFT Strongline that is about half the diameter of other braids at the same breaking strain you might as well go heavier.

Re: On leaders ...
Whats the wft strongline like ian?
For squid i use 14 to 20lb depending on whuch one i can find first.
I wouldnt bother with bream leaders for squid because as .mentioned they are not that shy of leader

Re: On leaders ...
I'll buck the trend here I've always used 20lb mono straight from reel to jig or jag spike and caught them, their not that shy and still come back for the jig if they drop off whilst being lifted..
He who has the most fishing rods WINS !
