Squid Fishing | Tips and Help | Land Base Melbourne
Hey Guys,
I want do more land base squid fishing, lots to learn and want more help on what works and what doesn't work.
For land base is it best to fishing on a low tide to an incoming high tide?
Is it better morning or late arvo?
Does wind direction matter when squid fishing?
What good videos and tips can you suggest?
I would like to try around St Kilda, Brighton or around those areras

Re: Squid Fishing | Tips and Help | Land Base Melbourne
Hi!
I have quite good luck at beaumauris jetty, from the left hand side and the right hand side about a third of the way down the jetty onwards. I just cast out, let it sink for 5 seconds and rip it 3-5 times. Red and white jigs work the best

Thanks for the info.
Do you use a EGI rod and what kind of reel?
Are you on braided line or mono?
Does wind direction makes a difference?

I was thinking of going tomorrow as the high tide is around lunch time. Is that time of the day any good for land base squid fishing?

Re: Squid Fishing | Tips and Help | Land Base Melbourne
I have caught them throughout the day as well but if I think back to it some of my best sessions have always been late in the arvo or early morning! I have caught plenty after dark as well.one2three wrote:Thanks.Lightningx wrote:Hi mate the missus and I usually go late afternoon like an hour or so before dark and have a lot of success

Thanks for the reply.
Does it matter what kind of line is used for Squid jigging?
I was thinking of going around tomorrow morning around Sandringham at 9am as the high tide is 12 as shown here https://tidesnear.me/tide_stations/4094
Would you say that is to early and to cold?

Land based
Coming into high tide is usually the best. The water is clearer and the bait and squid tend to come in closer.
Sunrise and sunset are by far the best times. You will catch them during the day - it’s just less likely
Wind direction matters in two ways. You don’t want to be casting into the wind so go to a pier where you can cast with the wind. You want clear water so onshore winds aren’t preferred.
Egi rods are great to use but you don’t need to spend the money if you don’t want to. 7 foot. Fairly stiff
2500 size reel. Can be cheap
Use braid
