Re: One for the squid experts
Somewhere in QLD.
Good chance your whiting over there is sand whiting. Different to the most whiting we have in Vic.
Vic whiting generally hangs around weed bed.
In Vic, whiting + weed bed = squid.
Not sure if it works the same in Qld. Sand whiting usually shares ground with flathead in the shallows.

Re: One for the squid experts
Looking at the area more closely (thanks Nudie for the location) it looks like the water is a bit discoloured around there, presumably because it's the mouth of a river. Down here at least that wouldn't usually be considered good for squidding but who knows what weird Queensland squid are into.
Looking a bit further afield I saw this spot which would be the first place I'd try if I had to catch squid in the immediate area (keep in mind I know nothing about Queensland squid, or anything about the area apart from what I can see on the satellite image).
You can see the coastline is rocky, which extends into the water to form a reef which you can see in the shallows. Down here at least squid are more likely to be associated with that kind of bottom than an estuary.
If you can find a Rovex specialist spin 2-5kg I really rate those for this kind of fishing (looks like dinga has them: https://www.dinga.com.au/rovex-7-0-2-pi ... 17578.html). I don't think they're in production any more but I'm sure that blank will turn up as some other Jarvis Walker brand.
Grab yourself some Rui jigs (he's on ebay), probably the best value jigs out there.

Re: One for the squid experts
Thanks ill be checking spots out when im in town next
I found this rod a while back https://www.fishingtackleshop.com.au/pr ... model.html looks to be the same as the dinga one just more options and diffrent naming.
Hmmm ebay i normaly avoid that place to many scammers if your not careful and the no negitive feed back worrys me since they could be covering up bad reveiws.

I agree with 4litres, that spot he shows does look the beans
Here is Wallaroo, South Australia. Plenty of squid in casting distance, similar to 4litres spot, so it should be good
Cheers, Bugs

Re: One for the squid experts
Nah that’s a bit different, never used one of the dedicated squid rods from Rovex. I’ve preferred the versatility of a 7’ rod from the kayak.saph wrote: ↑Wed Aug 28, 2019 10:29 pmThanks ill be checking spots out when im in town next

You won’t have an issue buying jigs from Rui, plenty of others here get his stuff.
