Sandringham groynes / advice

Post by jwsy » Sat Feb 04, 2012 9:46 pm

Hey guys, newcomer here.

A friend and I have just decided to start fishing again recently after an extended break. We've been trying to get onto some squid anywhere mornington side of ppb, just casting jigs. Today we tried our hand off the rock groynes at sandy because we heard you can catch some off the ends casting towards the poles - didn't get anything. Saw some people catching gars but nothing much else was on. We were going to try off the pier at half moon bay, but it was still packed with beachgoers late (7-8pm) so we didn't bother. Lately we've tried frankston pier (for 1) and some other places to no avail.

We've got no qualms about putting in the time, and have been reading about all these places including beumaris pier (haven't tried yet), but haven't seemed to be getting any luck. Most of the time we fish the afternoon till dusk. Any advice on a particular area to maybe focus on until we learn the water better? I keep reading alot of posts about people going squidding 'last night' - are you actually fishing past dusk?

In fact, any further advice would be welcome (trawled through the whole forum already!).

Cheers,

Jason

How ya doing Jason, Firstly welcome to the site mate.

technique and casting right spots help aswell.. but sometimes if the cala aint around then they just aint and are in deeper waters.
also casting into the edge of the reef can help too , gettin their attention.

Jigs do also play a part too cause some squids are just super picky lol.
and Merky water dont help either lol.

good luck bud :D
PLENTY!! of FISH!! in the SEA!! but so little TIME!!!
