Hi guys,
Would anyone recommend fishing from Rye pier this weekend? I've never fished from there and my friend invited me for lunch so I was planning to go really early fishing until lunchtime...
What's can be caught over there at this time of the year?
Thanks

Re: Recomendation
With the low tide at 6:15, from then up until 2 hours after the tide change would most likely be a productive time to fish. Being around first light is a big plus too. Otherwise theres the time leading up to the high tide from 10am-12pm ish. After checking out the pier on Google earth, I saw sand leading up to I assume is reef or seagrass, so I'd assume there might be some whitting there but I can't confirm it. I've been there once around this time of year at sunset, in about a space of an hour I seen pinkie, flathead, squid, salmon and leatherjackets caught there. Even heard gummies turn up there every now and again. Off the end of the pier might be the best bet, facing out towards open water. Thats about all I know, hope it helps and GL
You know what you'd rather be doinnnn

Portsea or Blairgowrie is a better option.

Last time I was there saw people catching plenty of squid but they were very small.

First light, sized 3.0 either red or gold foiled jigs will get you some squid? Hopefully
