Portsea pier

Post by dezza68 » Sat Oct 07, 2017 7:48 pm

Had a bash on Portsea today. The boats were smashing couta on the drift, they were well within casting range but couldnt get them to take anything. I tried several different slugs, even put a set of silver feathers on but no go.
I was fishing on the bottom with the other rod and barely losing a bait. I clipped a float rig onto the main line and let it slide down into the tide. After 5 minutes I had a bite and the float dissapeared, thought it must be a couta but ended up being a fat 45cm salmon. Will have to refine this rig a bit as the fish pulled the float gear right down onto the main part of the rig. Still ended up livening up a slow afternoon. The salmon is now in the fridge ready for a low tide session in the morning.
