A wonderful session at portsea!

Post by matari » Tue Mar 12, 2019 7:29 am

hey guys! went down to portsea pier to try my luck for the day and i really shocked myself on this one! not expecting to catch one and then on my third cast i got a 25cm hood!
portsea.jpg
helpful tip that i found out after i left was i caught it right on the tide change! kept casting for hours upon hours, and then decided to try sorrento get there have some lunch asked if anyone was catching on the pier and noone got anything so decided to go back to portsea and what a decision i made. was slow for 2 hours then i got one on the sephia 14t no photos was only small then it really turned on went to one of my favourite spots on the pier and started pulling them in. caught a heap then we started getting snagged alot. then i hooked up big! i thought it was a snag then started pulsing and i knew this was going to beat the 25cm hood earlier and it did only by 1cm though!

You shoud've seen the ink stain it made across the whole pier!

That report on your squiding escapades was a treat to read. Great feeling to get a squid on the third cast , , , , would have got your excitement up. Well done youngman.

I'm no Squid Biologist, but I would say in that photo, that the Squid is probably not smiling as big as you are. Great looking Squid.

My advice if a Squid squirts across the Pier again, so you don't get inked like this guy

Try the "Dive, Tuck and Roll" manoeuvre to get out of it's way.

The only other alternative may be to jump out of it's way BUT don't jump in the direction of the water lol.

Looks like the third cast is your lucky cast. Great that you are in the boofhead club. Has your Dad got one since then?
Nice for Dave to have taken you two out as well, well done Dave
