Re: Squid squid squid Blairgowrie-Portsea
I was at BG this afternoon and dropped one, about 2 others caught and one big cuttlefish - all on dusk to last light.GregExplores wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2019 3:53 pmHi is Portsea fishing good for squid at the moment or should I try Blairgowrie? i am heading down there tommorow
Portsea has been slow, a few has been caught but you have to put in the hours.
Best bet is an hr before/after first and last light. Use a size 3.0-3.5 red foiled jig.

Re: Squid squid squid Blairgowrie-Portsea
Most of the leatherjacket I've seen pulled are either directly under the pier or out towards the pylons where the ferry docks. Mind you, plenty to get snagged on there, so bring plenty of terminal tackle.
Tip for leatherjacket is to use small circle hooks (size 2-6) - they don't really have large mouths, and a lot of the time they're just picking at your bait and you'll come up empty or you'll miss the hit and they'll drag your hook down into structure and you'll be snagged.
Good luck - leatherjacket are great eating

Recap time: I went fished at Sorrento for about 9 hours. I caught nothing except for a couple of tiny wrasse that kept taking my bait....
