Well heading out on the jetski's today again. We hope to finish Jones Bay north of the Mitchell river silt jetties. That is it the last bit. Over 12 months of driving ski's and the survey vessel up and down on lines drawn on a pc. Hundreds of klms many days on the water. Hot cold wet thirsty bored you name it. It has been an epic undertaking. The survey crew have spent many hours processing the data, glad I am not involved in it.
Very shortly the data will be released on the Gippsland ports site.

It will be available as an overlay by putting a tick in the layer box. You can do it now for Mallacoota. It will be a choice of coloured overlay or digital depth in meters .
If you do it on a smart phone or tablet with gps, your position will be shown.
I grew up on the lakes and have spent all my life out there but I have learnt so many things doing this survey. I can now say I have been to every corner of the lake system.

Gippsland lakes hydrographic survey
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

The information will go to the hydrographic dept, but it may be years before they do an official chart.purple5ive wrote:so what exactly does this map do.

You will be able to view it on a smart phone or PC and show your position if your phone has gps.
At this stage unless navionics or cmap decide to use the information there will not be any charts available for commercial GPS plotters.

Re: Gippsland lakes hydrographic survey
The rest of this is up now. We did the Nicholson river to where it divides today some 10km above the highway bridge. We also did the Mitchell river backwater to Clifton creek. These will be added in the next week or so.
