They are ok and we will get them their boat back in a few days when the swell goes down.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

This shows the bar entry and safe approach using the 2 blue lights to keep over the deepest part of the bar.
Great site that ports site.
I have taken a snapshot of the bar and the approach.

Hope you find it useful.

Stay on the line of lights. Blue bar on the break wall in line with blue triangle on the top of the dunes.
Until you reach 12mtrs depth. Same on the way in, stay in 12mtrs till you line up the lights then cross........
todays episode would most likely not have happened if this simple rule was followed

Yep... and some went out in the dark. Was about a dozen trailers at the ramp when I went down for my morning swim at 5-45am..
I see some one saying they went at 1am, tide would have been running out then... I just shake my head at times.

What's that thing in the background behind the boat?

That is the dredge spoil outlet for the small dredge that works inside the lake.

We pulled their boat off the beach this afternoon. Help them put it back on the trailer and now they wait for the insurance to take a look.
We had to swim a light line ashore from the coast guard boat, then drag the main towline. Dragged it straight off the beach, by the time it hit the water it was on the plane. Had to time it to miss the bigger breakers. Luck would have it we got it through the surf zone without wetting the deck.

Some people have no idea and think everything is just too easy. They do no research and ask no questions from people who know. They're lucky no personal harm occurred, but every now and then bars do cost life and injury..... This post serves as a healthy reminder - it's nice to go fishing and catch fish - but at what cost?? This post is most informative. What a great beast of a fish that swordfish is. Must be nearing an Australian record!!!

Re-tyred, I note the wave period jumped up on the graph you posted. Always thought the longer the wave period on the ocean the gentler the ride. As a rule of thumb at a bar - is it right to say the longer the wave period the larger the swell and the bigger the breakers because those waves hold more water per cycle?? If wave period was say 15 seconds and the swell 1.5 metres max, I would think it reasonable to cross but I guess you would have to suss out the breakers visually? Shorter wave periods to me indicate chopy seas and a rougher ride, but I guess the breakers would not be as intense cause the volume in each cycle is less. Again you would have to assess maximum wave height?
