The Pinkies just keep giving.

Post by re-tyred » Fri Jun 16, 2017 3:28 pm

Another great bit of weather, so I decided to have a late start, 10.30am, to let the day warm up a bit. Headed out to the 4mile south corner. Just rubbish fish there. So after half an hour I headed to the 6 mile. Noticed a nice looking bit of bottom with some fish on it on the northern side. I dropped a line over the side without anchoring and bang, straight on. Nice pinkie about 35cm. So I moved back over the spot and anchored,,,,, Nothing. Then I noticed the anchor hadn't caught and I had drifted off the spot. Pulled it back up and made sure the second time that it had bit in. :water: 10 minutes nothing,,, Then a bull eye gurnard. Then a rock cod... Rigged a second very light rod with a 2/0 and 10lb line on a sliding rig. Bit of squid and cast it out to one side. It hit the bottom and bam off it goes. With a 2kg rod it was a slow job to work it up out of 36 meters. Number two pinky on board. Then the heavier rig goes bouncing up and down, yeah! but not much fun on 20lb rig. so I put it away and just stuck with the light rig. One hour later and 7 pinkies, 6 of which I kept, and it was time to go home with all I can eat for the next couple of days...
Winter fishing here is the best. Back at the ramp had the place to myself, loaded the boat and back home to clean them. Now to make some chips.. :a_goodjob:

There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
