Good spots around Paynesville (south of)...?
Hi Guys,
Will be heading down to Paynesville and hiring a big cruiser over the Sep hols.
Usually spend time cruising around the Banksia Peninsula, Duck Bay and down towards Trapper Point.
Never really been fishing there, so am looking for some tips on decent spots, which are kid-friendly too.
What would be the main species around there and what are the best methods?
Will be mainly based on the boat but maybe on some remote jetties and beaches.
Cheers,
Mike.

Newlands arm and duck arm normally fish alright for flatties. Soft plastics do the trick. They might be a little slow though with the water being cold. Bream on plastics and vibes around the jettys. I don't fish the lake that much so can't help to much

Thanks for the info guys.
I'll take some SPs (never really used them with any success before) and some hard-body minnows.
Cheers,
Mike.

Not sure if there are many in there atm but the minnows will go well on the salmon and tailor that visit the lakes, otherwise I would stick to the plastics. A 2.5" grub in a nice natural colour (blood worm, motoroil, watermelon etc.) will be one of your best bets for an all rounder the other good option is a little paddle tail. I use zman slim swimz and grubz, there are a few reasons they are my preferred plastic but if it has that profile and is a decent material (not to stiff) it will get decent results. Light jig heads and a relatively slow hop along the bottom should see you land a few fish. Can't add too much to specific locations for that area but the jetties hold a good number of breammingle wrote:Thanks for the info guys.

Get a hold of some small blades such as the strike pro hummer 40 and target around the jetties around Paynesville fishing directly along the pylons. Or if you head into one of the rivers, I like to use a firebait longtail minnow slowly twitched along the bottom. Given the cold conditions, most of the fish are very timid, hence long pauses and subtle twitches along the bottom - use a sounder to locate the schools first. In the rivers, a lot of the bream are still spawning.

Thanks for the info chaps - I'll certainly give some of the more remote/quiet jetties a go.
Do you know if there are any spots to pump Bass yabbies around the area?
Cheers,
Mike.

I'm thinking of chucking a couple of lures out far behind the boat while we're phutting from mooring to mooring... There are usually tailor around, right?
I'll probably buy some bait when I get to Paynesville. I've heard that pieces of prawn are good baits around the jetties.
Cheers,
Mike.

Take some hard bodies for the Choppers and just troll in between spots, will pick up a few for sure. They're usually not fussy so any size and brand is fine as long as they stay in that first 2ft of water. SP's definitely the go for the flatties in the shallows
