Re: Metung
Cruising the lakes system is awesome, lots of species, always somewhere to get out of the wind to keep fishing, using Metung as a central base to exploring surrounding area's is a great choice, I love the place...

If you buy there you won't want to come back to Melbourne, The Prawn run every year is great fun for the kids..bowl wrote:Was thinking about buying a holiday cabin tahornet wrote:Cruising the lakes system is awesome, lots of species, always somewhere to get out of the wind to keep fishing, using Metung as a central base to exploring surrounding area's is a great choice, I love the place...

Re: Metung
Bowl, its a great part of the world. I have a shack at The Honeysuckles - its 240km & an easy drive on a Fri & Sun return with the Sh!t traffic getting outta town. It takes us 2 ¾ hrs generally, however gotta add another hour on the long weekends and holiday periods. Its worth considering that Metung is a bit further away (add 50-60km) and a lot busier on the roads between Sale-Bairnsdale. if you tow the boat add some more time.
We chose the Honeysuckles for the price, distance from Melb, its half way between Loch Sport & McLoughlins Beach to launch my tinny, 2 min walk to 90 mile beach and a lot quieter in the holiday timing.
Plus side - some great places to eat in Metung and not far from Bairnsdale & Lakes Entrance. We're 4km from Seaspray - Surf Club has meals etc. Gotta go to Sale for the main shopping, or as we do - take it down there & fish!
Hope it helps your decision.

Love it, use to spend a lot of time fishing around there when the old fella lived on Raymond Island, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Re: Metung
Metung is not to bad. Lot of toffee noses live there but it's nice and quite. Better than lakes entrance. It's fairly central. Stuff all to lakes in the car or boat. And not to far from Bairnsdale. Plenty of fish in the lakes and rivers and obviously offshore at lakes entrance. And if fishing isn't your only game not far to the bush for sightseeing, hunting, walking, riding the list goes on.
