Golden Beach weed

Post by donchich » Thu Jan 04, 2018 10:09 pm

Hi people, fished golden beach over the new Year and found it to have plenty of weed to the point it took 5 mins to clear after spending a minute in the water. Locals said this has been the case for a couple of months due to the local trawlers!
Can anyone please shed any light here?
Would like to hit the surf again soon but afraid of disappointment...anywhere else in vic showing some promise?
Thanks in advance

What would trawlers have to do with it. May as well blame your mother in law. For a start no trawlers trawl at Golden beach. You may very rarely see 1 salmon purse seiner. You may occasionally see a shark netter. No commercial activity will effect the weed, in fact it is a much bigger pain in the butt to them. The weed occurs when conditions are right for it to grow, this happens every few years and it is growing on the entire length of the Gippsland coast. It will die when the water cools off in Autumn or when a storm breaks it up and pushes it on the beach or out into deep water.
There's nothing . . . absolutely nothing . . . half so much worth doing as simply messing around in boats.

I was planning on going to del-ray this weekend for a fish but my friend who lives in Sale said stay away, and my cousin who spent new years at Woodside said don't bother as well.

the 90 mile is a very unreliable place to fish at the best of the times. Conditions need to be perfect, and even if they are, then you still get crabs. Not sure I would blame the weed on trawlers though.

Attempted to fish off Ocean Grange on Tuesday night and yes the weed is ridiculous.
Spun up a few salmon but bait fishing was impossible.

It’s been like that for a couple of months. Eventually it will clear up unless there are strong winds for a few days in a row

A mate fished point Ricardo last night no weed there. Plus managed couple of gummies and heaps of salmon.

The weed continues to be an issue and need to wait until it clears up, hopefully in time for the comp on Australia Day week end. Great for beach goers however and has to be the hidden gem of beaches. Shhh. ran into a couple of friendly reptiles too that the kids encouraged to stay off the road.

According to some surfer mates at lakes the weed has cleared up, the prawn trawlers are back in action.
One has been beached though the other night just near the bluff.
Big whoopsie
