Bemm River Report

Post by Boonanza » Sun Jan 28, 2018 11:41 am

Spent 6 days down at Bemm River last week. The fishing was not exceptional but was pretty good. The entrance was closed and the water was quite high and the fish were very hard to find. Once you find the fish it was almost non stop action and we caught plenty of undersize Bream but did manage to bring home 16 size fish home with most in the 29-30cm range which are great eating size. We did manage 4 bigger fish 2x37cm and another (2 about 40cm which were released sorry no photos of them). We also managed 4 nice flatties 3 were around the 47cm-50cm mark and another cracking 60cm which was safely released and also a couple of silver Trevally. Tried my hardest with soft plastics and Hard Body lures and caught absolutely nothing so all fish were caught on prawns. It was another great trip to one of the best places in Victoria I can't wait to get back. Sorry about the pictures some were taken on the phone.

Nice work mate. Bemm is a lovely place.
Next time try some metal.blades. they are a lot easier to use and better at casting distances if your landbased.

Well done bud.
I envy you. I went to Bemm River 3 weeks ago( plan was to get to Mallacoota, but kids have had enough of driving . So we ended up in Bemm River.) we only stayed there for z day as mozzies drives us out. All I had was soft plastics, as the mission was to finally catch something on them land based. I fished the river mainly. Just for one nibble.
So you did much better then I have. Congrats!

Thanks Steve, good report.I hope they wait a few weeks till w get there before opening the entrance.
The fishing is generally at it,s best then with tidal flow freshening the lake up, can be brilliant for Luderick early in the piece.

G'day Blue,
When are you heading up to Bemm? We mainly fished up the entrance and just beached the boat as I had the Mrs with us as well. We got all the flatties & a fair amount of the Bream fish at Reg's Rest which I'm sure you probably know is a few hundred meters up the entrance on the first bend. It was a nice spot where the wife could sit and read a magazine while Michael and I were fishing.

Cheers Steve

G,day Steve, the long weekend in March (see post in bream master)
When the entrance is first opened it,s crazy up there, fish go berserk, some of our blokes had a ball surface fishing Bent Minnows while wading the flats,I bait fished and watched from a boat. Bream on the surface, you're kidding!
We fish all over the inlet, all along the Mahoganies is alwys a favourite as well as Bob,s Bay. Often just drift down the middle with Vibes, that,s the beauty of the place, so many options.
It fishes quite differently if there is tidal flow so will just keep fingers crossed.
How is Young Boony coming along, it,s quite a while since I first met you two at Coburg Lake, bet he,s an accomplished fisho by now.
Regards
